OCGS DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM
(Some of the information here is repeated as reiteration from the OCGS Situationer previously released.)
WHAT COULD BE EXPECTED FROM THE DISTANCE LEARNING PROGRAM?
Distance Learning Program is NOT intended to replicate the full set of learning experiences when actual classes are in session.
The DLP will consist of synchronous learning (via digital meeting room app), asynchronous learning (through pre-recorded video lectures to be uploaded in Google Classroom), and independent learning (through pen and paper exercises, performance tasks, reading and research).
Definition of Terms:
-
Synchronous Learning – learning activities or consultations done in real time with the teacher
-
Asynchronous Learning – learning activities done at the student’s own pace
-
Independent Learning – learning activities that would demonstrate student learning and their grasp of the lesson. Learning materials are usually assigned and to be submitted.
Daily class periods, which will be allocated for the seven major subjects: English, Math, Science, Christian Education, Filipino, Civics and Chinese, are as follows:
Pre-Nursery – Nursery Kinder – Grade 3 Grade 4 – 6 Grade 7 – 12
1.50 hours – 2 hours 2 hours – 3 hours 4 hours 4 hours – 5 hours
Instruction and activities shall be designed to help students advance in their knowledge and skills.
For preschool to Grade 3, materials with instructional guide will be sent to parents. Given the students’ limited capacity for independent learning, parents or guardians will have to provide the necessary assistance and guidance in learning and accomplishing tasks.
For Grade 4 -12, students are reasonably expected to be able to manage to learn on their own with very little or no assistance from adults.
We have begun conducting the Distance Learning Program for the Online Remedial Summer Class for nine students starting April 20. Our Summer Class teachers are providing relevant feedback and suggestions which are currently being used to anticipate possible challenges when we implement the DLP school-wide.
Our faculty and staff are all committed to serving our students’ learning throughout this unique time. We ask for your patience and generous understanding as we all adapt to the necessary changes. We ask that you wait to send your questions about the DLP until we share additional details about how the plan will be implemented. We want our teachers fully focused on developing these plans over the next several days.

WHAT IS DISTANCE (ONLINE) LEARNING PROGRAM AND HOW LONG WILL IT RUN?
For as long as COVID-19 remains a threat, the School shall adopt the DLP regardless of which month we begin our classes. The DLP will be planned and scheduled on a monthly basis, initially for a period of one quarter (e.g. July to September), with the frequency of meetings per week and time allotment for each subject relatively fewer than that of regular classroom sessions.
With the information that the required school days will be reduced from 180 to 160 contact days and the release of the Most Essential Learning Competencies (MELC) by DepEd, Saturday classes may no longer be required to catch up on the deficiencies caused by the reduction of the number of meetings and daily time allotment during DLP.
DEVICE REQUIREMENT
A 1:1 student-gadget ratio is ideal. However, we are planning the DLP to have more asynchronous learning to allow siblings to share the use of gadget. Parents may also share their gadgets to students to view learning materials during their convenient time.
INTERNET CONNECTIVITY
For homes that need to apply for internet connection, you may indicate your intention to apply for internet in our Online Enrolment Form. Please be guided that OCGS is NOT processing the internet applications. The processing and approval of applications will be done solely by Globe Telecom. Any inquiry or follow-up is to be addressed to the Globe sales agent that will be designated to assist OCGS parents/ students on their internet connection applications.
We highly advise early application to avoid jam-ups in applications when other schools begin implementing their own DLP.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT SERVICES
