Academic Awards
Minimum grade requirements must be attained for each quarter or term in order to qualify for academic awards at the end of the year.
ï‚· For Elem Gr2-Gr6 and JHS: Honors citation will be given for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Quarters based on the qualifying quarter grade. Honors medals will be awarded at the end of the school year based on Final Grade requirements.
ï‚· For SHS: As each SHS subject is covered in only one semester (Term 1 and Term 2), honors will be cited and awarded as follows:
o At the end of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Quarters: Honors citation based on the qualifying quarter grade
o At the end of the school year:
- Honors certificate will be awarded to students who qualify for honors in EITHER the first OR the second semester, based on qualifying semester Final Grades (average of Term 1 and 2).
- Honors medal will be awarded to students who qualify for honors in BOTH the first AND the second semesters, based on qualifying semester Final Grades for ALL subjects taken in both semesters.
All academic and non-academic awards (i.e. medals or certificates) are given at the end of the school year during Recognition Day for non-graduating students and at the Commencement Exercises for graduating students.

Elementary (Gr2 – Gr6)
First Honors
ï‚· a general average rating of at least 96%
ï‚· no final grade below 92% in any major or minor subject
Second Honors
ï‚· a general average rating of at least 94%
ï‚· no final grade below 91% in any major or minor subject
Third Honors
ï‚· a general average rating of at least 92%
ï‚· no final grade below 90% in any major or minor subject

Special Awards for Elementary (Gr2 – Gr6)
ï‚· The pupil who obtains the highest final rating in a subject (computed to the hundredths place) in a given year level, where such grade is at least 95% shall receive the “Best in (subject) Award”.
ï‚· The pupil who obtains the highest final rating in EsP in a given year level, where each quarter grade is at least 94%, shall receive the Character Award.
ï‚· The pupil who demonstrates outstanding skills in planning, organizing and motivating his batch in the accomplishment of tasks in each section shall receive the Leadership Award. He should have a final grade of at least 80% in each subject and must have an exemplary character.
ï‚· Awards may be given for other exemplary achievement or performance of the pupils during the school year, e.g. Special Achievement Award in ______________, etc.
High School (Gr7 – Gr12)
First Honors
ï‚· a general average rating of at least 94%
ï‚· no final grade below 91% in any major or minor subject
Second Honors
ï‚· a general average rating of at least 93%
ï‚· no final grade below 90% in any major or minor subject
Third Honors
ï‚· a general average rating of at least 92%
ï‚· no final grade below 89% in any major or minor subject
Special Awards for High School
ï‚· The student who obtains the highest final rating in a subject (computed to the hundredths place) in a given year level, where such grade is at least 95%, shall receive the “Best in (subject) Award”.
ï‚· The student who obtains the highest final rating in EsP in a given year level, where each quarter grade is at least 94%, shall receive the Character Award.
ï‚· The student who demonstrates outstanding skills in planning, organizing and motivating his batch in the accomplishment of tasks in a given year level shall receive the Leadership Award. He should have a final grade of at least 80% in each subject and must have an exemplary character (at least VS 88% in EsP).
ï‚· Awards may be given for other exemplary achievement or performance of the students during the school year, e.g. Special Achievement Award in ______________.

OCGS Outstanding Student Award
The OCGS Outstanding Student Award is given to a graduating student, one from Grade 6 and one from Grade 12, who embodies the OCGS ideals of Academic Excellence and Outstanding Character.
To qualify for this award, the student must:
1. Have a three-year residency at OCGS, as follows:
ï‚· Grade 4-6 (for Elem awardee)
ï‚· Grade 10-12 (for HS awardee)
2. Be an honor student (1st, 2nd or 3rd honors), regardless of ranking, at the end of the school year
3. Have a final conduct grade of at least 92%
4. Exemplify the Core Values of OCGS of Devotion to God, Determination to Excel and Distinguished Character—possessing the character components as indicated in this handbook. (The top 5 in Conduct grade in the class.)
5. Not have incurred three (3) Broken Agreements nor have been sanctioned with offenses punishable by suspension or higher sanction within the residency years.

Selection Process:
Students who have fulfilled all criteria will be subject to an evaluation process involving grade level teachers and peers.
ï‚· The faculty component (60%) is taken from Final Conduct Grade, which is the average of four quarters of Conduct Grade of the current school year, employing a rubric with the 8 character components;
ï‚· The peer component (40%) is done through a similar rating wherein the entire batch individually rates each nominee according to the eight Core Values of the school.
The student who obtains the highest points shall be awarded with the OCGS Outstanding Student Medal and shall deliver the Address on Behalf of the Graduates.
